The focus will be teaching the players proper techniques for giving and receiving checks safely and effectively. Emphasizing player safety, positioning, and physicality while ensuring that they players develop confidence in contact situations. Key focuses on angling & gap control, body contact progression, shoulder & hip checks, follow-through & balance.

Clinic Details

Focus on improving players’ puck control, agility, and overall confidence with the puck. Key areas that will be focused on include proper grip and hand positioning, wrist movement and soft hands, keeping the head up while handling the puck, Controlling the puck in stationary and moving situations.

Featured Coach

Pavel Vorobei

Pavel played professional hockey in the KHL, Finnish League, ECHL and represented Team Belarus in the IIHF World Men’s and Junior competitions. In 2017, he won the World Junior Championship Group B with Team Belarus and became the tournament’s best defenseman. He was also named the best player of Belarus in 2018.

He lived in China for 1.5 years while playing for KHL’s Kunlun RedStar. Pavel was often chosen to participate in shootouts because of his strong shot. 

Pavel specializes in stick handling, passing, corner battles, puck protection, one-on-one battles, body checks, stick positioning, blue line plays, in front of net plays and other defensive skills. 

Over the years, he has worked with elite coaches like Dave Lewis (Detroit Red Wings), Mike Keenan (New York Rangers), Ville Nieminen (Colorado Avalanche), Alexei Kovalev, Alexander Barkov Sr, and Vladimir Bure. 

Pavel is multilingual in English, Russian, and Belarusian.

Focus is to improve a player’s skating efficiency, speed, agility and over all edge control. Core skating techniques would bestride mechanics, edge work, balance & stability, acceleration and explosiveness. Some advanced applications will be crossovers & lateral movements, tight turns, stops and starts, and backward skating.

Improving a player’s shot power, accuracy, release speed, and overall scoring ability. Focal points are wrist shot, snapshot, slap shot, backhand shot, one-timer. Mechanic skills will focus on quick release, shooting in stride, weight transfer, leverage, hand positioning & grip.
 
Goalies: Want additional ice time? Come early before the Goalie Skills Clinic & register as a drop-in goalie for the Shooting Skills clinic for an additional hour.
